Doing First.
First, stop the water if you safely can. Every fixture has a small shutoff valve nearby, and the whole house has a main shutoff where the water line comes in. Closing the right one turns a flood into a puddle.
Second, keep people and pets away from any sewage. A backup is a health hazard, and cleanup goes better the less it gets tracked around.
Third, leave the repair itself to a licensed plumber. Emergency fixes touch pressurized lines, waste lines, and sometimes gas fired equipment, and a rushed patch at midnight has a way of becoming a bigger call by morning. If you ever smell gas, get everyone out first and call your gas utility before you call anyone else.
